Tolobi
Tolobi platform is an extensive property rental and management service meant to bring together landlords, tenants, and visitors. The user can register and log in via email or google, with different roles such as landlords, tenants, and guests. The platform provides a feature-laden home page where users can browse properties based on city, number of bedrooms, and other criteria such as amenities, utilities, and price range. Real-time chat enables interaction between landlords and users, while landlords can generate and maintain property listings with complete specifications. Tolobi further encompasses premium features such as roommate matching, viewing properties before signing in, and a comprehensive help center for support.
Challenges
One of the key issues we encountered in developing Tolobi was putting in place a permission-based role system. Giving screen access from user permissions involved meticulous planning and implementation since we had to design screens and display data dynamically based on these permissions.Handling numerous many-to-many relationships among roles, permissions, and users and ensuring smooth integration with all modules was a challenging task.
Besides that, creating a smooth email exchange system among users was also difficult. We wanted to make sure that email interactions among users would be accessible through their platform accounts without compromising the privacy of the exchange. In order to do this, we incorporated Mailslurp, a service used to generate specialized email accounts per user. We established custom webhooks to send emails to these individual accounts to forward emails, providing communication between users through the platform while preserving the reply chain. Finally, we created a guest user option to enable users to reserve properties without registering. This was achieved through a pre-viewing questionnaire with search filters, and data and email of users were kept for future reference in the event that they wanted to join, thus making it more user-friendly and accessible.
Landlords
Tolobi enabled landlords to post and manage their properties with ease, getting more exposure through featured listings and real-time communication with tenants. They could also process inquiries, bookings, and property information in a single platform.
Tenants
Tenants could search properties with custom filters, see detailed property features, and communicate directly with landlords. They could also request roommates or browse properties without signing up.
Guests
Guest users would be able to browse available properties and inquire about them using the pre-viewing feature without registering. Their information was stored for later use in case they wanted to sign up and book a property in the future.
Roommates
Roommates would be able to find possible co-living spaces easily, communicate with other roommates, and ask for properties that met their needs. The site made it easier and more convenient for roommates to search.
Admins
Admins had full control over user roles, permissions, and platform modules ensuring smooth operations and seamless user experience. They could manage listings, monitor content, and adjust as required.
